Northwestern Bulls denied three-peat

ORLANDO -- Miami Northwestern had a place in history within its grasp after one quarter Saturday night.
Over the next three quarters, Seminole High ripped it away.
The Bulls watched a 21-0 lead slip away, as did their bid to win three consecutive state titles, in a 28-21 defeat in the Class 6A championship game in front of 12,764 fans at the Citrus Bowl.
Despite tight coverage by Northwestern safety Tevin McCaskill, Seminole wide receiver Andre DeBose grabbed a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ray Ray Armstrong with 33 seconds remaining to cap the Seminoles' comeback.
Northwestern moved the ball as far as its own 45-yard line on its final possession, but the Seminoles ended any hopes of a miraculous comeback when defensive end Dyron Dye sacked quarterback Wayne Times on the game's final play.
The loss ended Northwestern's hopes of becoming Miami-Dade County's first team to win three state championships in a row since the playoff format was adopted in 1963.

Northwestern Bulls: 'We're not done yet'

A ''rebuilding'' season became a historic season for Miami Northwestern and Miami-Dade County.
And unlike every playoff round the past three weeks, the Bulls didn't allow Miramar or its star quarterback Eugene Smith any late-game heroics.
Northwestern used a time-consuming running game that limited Miramar to 22 offensive plays in the first half as they amassed a comfortable lead and beat the Patriots 42-23 in a Class 6A state semifinal at Lockhart Stadium.
An estimated crowd of 14,000 watched the Bulls become the first Dade team in the playoff era to advance to three consecutive state championship games.
Northwestern (13-1), winners of 43 of its past 44 games, will try to win its third consecutive state championship when it takes on Sanford Seminole (12-2) next Saturday at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando at 7 p.m. Seminole beat Orlando Boone 21-17 on Friday to advance to its first state championship game.
